Noel Tata, the half-brother of the late Ratan Tata, has been appointed as the new chairman of Tata Trusts. This significant leadership change follows the passing of Ratan Tata, a towering figure in Indian industry, who died at the age of 86 in October 2024. Noel was unanimously selected by the Tata Trusts’ board during a meeting held in Mumbai, marking him as the 11th chairman of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the sixth chairman of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust, which together control a majority stake in Tata Sons.
Noel Tata has a long history with the Tata Group, having held various leadership positions for over 40 years. He is credited with transforming the group’s retail arm, Trent, into a successful chain of over 700 stores across India, and he played a pivotal role in expanding Tata International’s revenue. His deep connections with the Tata family and his strategic leadership in multiple Tata companies made him the natural choice to succeed Ratan Tata.
