New Delhi, 19 September 2024 – The Government of India has firmly denied claims made in a Reuters report regarding the alleged diversion of Indian defence exports to Ukraine. Addressing media queries on the matter, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Shri Randhir Jaiswal dismissed the report as “speculative and misleading.”
In an official statement, Jaiswal remarked that the report inaccurately suggested violations by India where none exist. He emphasized that the allegations were “inaccurate and mischievous.”
“India has an impeccable track record of compliance with international obligations on the export of military and dual-use items,” said Jaiswal, adding that the country’s defence exports are conducted within a robust legal and regulatory framework. This framework, he explained, includes thorough assessments of criteria such as end-user obligations and certifications.
India, he reiterated, remains committed to international standards on non-proliferation, ensuring all its defence export activities align with global norms.
