New Zealand’s win in the first Test against India in Bengaluru was a significant moment in their cricket history. After 36 years of not being able to win a Test on Indian soil, they achieved a commanding victory, taking an early lead in the three-match series.
India’s first innings was a disaster, as they were bowled out for only 46 runs, one of their lowest totals. New Zealand responded strongly, posting 356 runs, largely due to Rachin Ravindra’s century. In India’s second innings, Sarfaraz Khan put up a fight with a gritty 150, while Rishabh Pant contributed with 99. However, India couldn’t build on the momentum, and their innings ended at 462, leaving New Zealand a target of 107.
New Zealand chased the target with ease, despite Jasprit Bumrah’s aggressive opening spell, winning by eight wickets. The bowlers, led by Matt Henry (8 wickets) and William O’Rourke (7 wickets), played a crucial role in dismantling India’s batting lineup.
With this win, New Zealand leads the series 1-0, and the second Test is set to take place in Pune from October 24,2024.
