The IPL Governing Council has announced significant updates to the TATA IPL Player Regulations for the 2025-2027 seasons. Key decisions from the meeting include
1. Retention and Right to Match (RTM):
Franchises can retain up to 6 players, through either retention or RTM. The maximum number of capped players is 5 (Indian or overseas), with a maximum of 2 uncapped players.
2. Auction Purse and Salary Cap:
The auction purse for 2025 is set at INR 120 crore. The total salary cap will be INR 146 crore in 2025, increasing to INR 151 crore in 2026, and INR 157 crore in 2027. The salary cap includes auction purse, performance pay, and match fees.
3. Match Fee Introduction:
A match fee of INR 7.5 lakhs per match has been introduced for all playing members, including the Impact Player, in addition to their contracted amount.
4. Overseas Player Registration:
Overseas players must register for the Big Auction. Failure to do so will render them ineligible for the next auction.
5. Unavailable Players Ban:
Players who register for the auction but make themselves unavailable after being picked will face a 2-season ban.
6. Capped Player Status:
Capped Indian players who have not played in the starting XI in international cricket in the last 5 years or don’t hold a central BCCI contract will be reclassified as uncapped.
7. Impact Player Rule:
The Impact Player regulation will continue for the next cycle from 2025 to 2027.
These regulations aim to enhance the competition and management of IPL teams moving forward.
